SME's Colorado Section wrapped up its 2007-2008 meeting year on May 22, 2008. The highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the section's Lifetime Recognition Award to Stanley Dempsey, executive chairman of Royal Gold. In honor of the occasion, the section presented Dempsey with a specially engraved, hardbound copy of De Re Metallica. Dempsey's work in the mining industry has been distinguished by the highest levels of quality and integrity. His career has also been characterized by his support of industry organizations, including service as a member of the Board of Governors of the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum and as a former chair of the Colorado Historical Society, the Colorado Mining Association, the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation and the Mining History Association. He is presently a director of the World Gold Council. Denver-based Royal Gold is the world's leading precious metals royalty company, with a current royalty portfolio of eight producing properties and four development-stage properties. The producing properties in the company's portfolio include the three largest gold mines in North America.
