Gold Fields Australasia Ltd expects to increase gold production at its prized St Ives project in Western Australia by 10 percent during the current year while substantially improving operating costs. The company - which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the South African-based Gold Fields Ltd - plans to reduce milling costs, increase operational efficiencies at its underground operations as well as introduce a number of other site-wide optimisation initiatives to the site. According to the mining house, operational performance is based on the premise that 4.9 million tonnes will be treated through the new Lefroy plant, which was originally commissioned in February 2005.
