摘要

This landmark exhibition, organized by the Dallas Museum of Art, offers a tightly focused look at the impact of Modernism and the changes in silver design and production from the 1920s to the end of the last century. Equally as important, it gives a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the shifting tastes and social contexts that fed the industry's ups and downs during this period. The story is told through more than 200 outstanding examples of holloware and flatware and through the companion catalogue, expertly researched and authored by Jewel Stern. Drawn in large part from Ms. Stern's collection of American silver, which the Dallas Museum of Art acquired in 2002, the selection highlights the achievements of key figures, including Erik Magnussen, Eliel Saarinen, Belle Kogan, John Prip and Robert Venturi, and the role that museums, department stores, hotels, and other institutions played in fostering demand and retail.
