Metal Fills Requirements Relating To University's New Athletic Arena

With need often comes opportunity. At Lipscomb University, officials turned the need for a new athletic arena into an opportunity to enhance the overall campus environment and further define its physical spaces. For reasons relating to both form and function, metal construction products were extensively used on the building's exterior. The new 18 million dollars Allen Arena - located in Nashville, TN - replaces an outdated gymnasium built in 1950. Seating over 5,000 people, it provides the university and surrounding community with a medium-sized venue for hosting a wide variety of events. In its dual role, the 110,000 sq. ft. building also serves as a fellowship hall for the University Chapel, enabling the University to conduct chapel services for the entire student body in one sitting. The site of the new arena was chosen in accordance with the University's master plan. The building was oriented so that its main entrance terminates the campus' main north/south axis. Through its placement, the structure also adds definition to the boundary of a new pedestrian mall that runs in an east/west direction.
