Dwarfism is a frequently occurring congenital abnormality in farm animals. Defects of endochondral ossification results to disproportionate dwarfism with abnormal length of the limbs. Achondroplasia is a skeleton abnormalities with abnormal length of the limbs (short- and long-limbed achondroplasia) and craniofacial deformities, and achondroplasia malformation is severe when inherited in the homozygous recessive mode. Cattle breeds such as Dexter, Holstein-Friesian, Jersey, Aberdeen Angus, Hereford, Shorthorn and Japanese Brown are frequently affected by achondroplasia.
