A plastic protective cover for electrical sockets, pictured right, has won the DuPont Engineering Polymers 'Imagineering' design competition for its three inventors, Roman Pueyo, Manne Kuva and Marc Guitart from the Escola Massana, Barcelona, Spain. The single-piece design, made from Delrin acetal resin, incorporates a spring action that twists its plug-holes away from those on the electricity outlet when a plug is removed, so preventing children putting their fingers in the socket and electrocuting themselves. The design was praised by the judges of the finals, held at the Euromold exhibition in Frankfurt last December, for its innovative character and commercial potential. It beat entries from four other European countries to win the 2000 competition, which was the first time the event had been held across Europe.
