In 2007, The Member's Benevolent Trust (MBT) assisted 48 cases with grants totalling 62,123 pounds (46,006 pounds in 2006) Donation income from institute members was somewhat down at 10,392 pounds (14,713 pounds in 2006). The Trust received a legacy of 300 pounds. During the same period, investment income was 58,471 pounds, a fall of 20,517 pounds resulting from two special dividend payments in 2006. The capital value of the investment fund on 31 December 2007 was 1,6 million pounds, representing a one per cent drop over the year. The Trust's cash reserves fell from 14,854 pounds to 8,664 pounds. As a consequence of increased needs of beneficiaries, the Trustees had to draw down more deposit cash from the investment portfolio than in 2006. It is also noted that the value of our investments and cash portfolio slipped further during the first two months of 2008 to 1.5 million pounds, a decrease of seven per cent from the end of last year.
