A commercial video image analyser (VCS 2000; e & v, Oranienburg) was evaluated for pig carcass analysis in a pilot experiment. Although major carcass components were estimated with satisfactory precision, estimation of joint percentages was less precise. Further development is required before this particular equipment could be applied under commercial conditions.
