What can be expected of transgenic maize varieties?

Transgenic maize varieties expressing the Bt-toxin, which makes them resistant to European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis) and other pests, or those with resistance to glufosinate, offer potential advantages in maize cultivation. They contribute toprotection and increase of performance and thus help decrease costs. So far, no negative experiences with transgenic maize have been reported.
