摘要

Anyone asked what, during the last generation, has been the single biggest change in the field of librarianship would probably reply: "Technology". It would be hard to argue with that but the development of professional marketing and innovative outreach services have also made huge differences to the way that libraries and librarians themselves work and, perhaps to a lesser extent, affected the way the profession is perceived. Research by Cynthia L. Henry, Kimberley K. Vardeman and Carrye K. Syma ofTexas Tech University Libraries, USA, examines the way that librarians have been finding new ways to communicate and connect with their patrons. Technology is a significant part of this, but ultimately it is only part of the story.
