Significance of Salmonella monitoring of the flock and the slaughterhouse survey following the water delivery of a commercial organic acid-based formulation broiler turkeys

The authors examined the effect of ProPhorce BD 902, an organic acidifier, on the salmonella contamination of broiler turkeys, in the context of Salmonella eradication/reduction programme. The S. Bredeney carriage of the flock could not be terminated with the treatment. The short, 3-day application, using a high dose, resulted in an obvious reduction of salmonella shedding as proved by cloaca swabbing. However, the 6-day treatment did not reduce the Salmonella occurrence and shedding.
