Sir, Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the contributions (Machinery, 19 April), which relate to the outlook for engineering manufacture. From the perspective of a manufacturer, supplying an international market, the articles do not start to address the problem. The robot man thinks we should buy robots. The small firms man writes about small firms rather than engineering manufacture. Brian Wilson's piece is a good example of the sort of outpouring we often get on TV; fast delivery, up beat, lots of numbers, but short on analysis and no evident philosophy. It is tempting to suggest that he sit on the small end of his capital gains tax taper and juggle with his II initiatives.
