摘要

Preliminary studies were undertaken on the effects of irradiation on pollen germination in pineapple (Ananas comosus) to examine its potential for haploid plant production. Pollen of 2 varieties, Serrana (Smooth Cayenne) and Red Spanish, were subjected to gamma-irradiation from a 60Co source at 16 Gy/min (dose rates from 0 to 6 kGy). Pollen in vitro viability and tube length of both varieties decreased at the highest doses, and at 6 kGy there was no pollen germination recorded. Serrana (Smooth Cayenne) was more radiosensitive than Red Spanish. There were inverse correlations between irradiation dose and both pollen viability and tube length.
