A move to create a stronger identity for South African plums with British and German consumers will get underway between January and March next year coinciding with the export peak. A majority of the 600 growers which represent the industry across nine production areas mainly in the West have agreed to fund a £300,000 promotional campaign in the UK in a joint venture with SA Tourism which will meet half the cost, according to Stefan Conradie, product manager for the South African stone fruit and top fruit industry.
