November is likely to mark a new phase in the revision of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). That's because the deadlines for comments for four of the five proposed rules are slated to expire. The deadline for the produce safety and preventivecontrols rules is Nov. 15 while the cutoff period for comments about the import rules is Nov. 25. While there have been deadline extensions in the past for the produce safety and preventive controls rule, FDA has signaled, and industry leaders believe, that there will be no more extensions.
