The former MD of Marine Harvest Scotland, who is now General Manager at Aviagen's Newbridge office, discusses the parallels between the salmon and poultry sectors. FF: How did you start out in aquaculture? CD: I was a fanatical trout fisherman and landed my first fisheries job in 1976, working with Willie Shearer at the salmon research centre on the North Esk.After completing a PhD in fish diseases at Heriot-Watt I was recruited as a Fish Disease Scientist by Anglian Water at their new fish disease laboratory, then moved up to DAFS (as it was then) Aberdeen lab in 1987 - at a time when the salmon industry was taking off in Scotland and there were plenty of opportunities for fish health specialists.
