Bacteria in the digestive tract of developing cod larvae

STOCKS of wild cod have fallen dramatically in the North Atlantic in recent years and the high consumer demand for this species has provided a major stimulus to develop large-scale aquaculture of cod. This has been done in Norway, Scotland and Canadaand, although cod has been reared successfully for over 15 years, there are still difficulties in expanding the supply of juvenile fish for on-growth. Improvements are still being made in egg quality, nutrition, diet and control of diseases primarily caused by bacteria and viruses.
