摘要

Aquaculture is the largest expanding food production sector in the world at present.According to FAO data it has grown by an average of 8% annually over the past 15 years and is continuing to do so, which is essential for the sustainability of food production over the next few decades. While aquaculture is continuing to expand, however, there is a general feeling that education and training at all levels are not keeping up. The European Aquaculture Society considers that this lack of high level training is one of the greatest impediments to the futuredevelopment of aquaculture in Europe, and this is likely to be true as international aquaculture become more and more global, and exploits international markets and standards. Aquaculture training for the future requires a variety of advanced skills andknowledge for its leaders in the future. These should be taught at postgraduate level in order to build on wider general knowledge given in undergraduate courses.
