Enabling community mobility is an opportunity to practice social occupational therapy.

The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists' National Blueprint for Injury Prevention in Older Drivers is founded on the principal that driving is a responsibility but community mobility is a right (CAOT, 2009). While that document is aimed at older adults who continue to drive, the right to community mobility goes beyond this particular group to encompass all citizens. The ability to move in ones community enables participation in work, social, cultural, self-care, and civic occupations; it fosters a sense of belonging to a community. This special issue of the Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy explores different aspects of community mobility. The occupation of being a guest editor has been an exciting one for me. I want to thank Marcia Finlayson for her guidance and patience. I also want to thank the many reviewers who spent time to provide thoughtful peer reviews of the submissions to this issue.
