Germany: Lanxess - iron oxide & chromium oxide pigments

Lanxess has spent ?1.6 M to modernise and expand its waste water treatment facilities at the Krefeld-Uerdingen inorganic pigment complex. One of the key features of this project was the installation of a new water-boiling vat with an effective volume of 150 cubic metres. Dr Birgit Blankemeyer-Menge (Global Production Manager) commented: "This project will lay the foundations for further capacity expansion of our iron oxide and chromium oxide pigment plants." Moreover, there will be marginal increases in pigment production as a result of better recovery of iron oxide from the waste water. Currently, Lanxess produces about 280,000 tonnes/y of pigments at Krefeld-Uerdingen.
