CHILE'S SOCIEDAD Química y Minera de Chile S.A. (SQM) this week reported a 50.8% rise in earnings for the first quarter of 2008 to $64.8m compared with $43.0m for the same year earlier period. SQM's CEO and president Patricio Contesse said earnings were boosted by a significant growth in revenues on account of the favourable pricing scenario in world fertilizer markets, which has more than offset pressures on the cost side.
