AGRICULTURE Secretary Tom Vilsack's recent appointments to the National Pork Board raised some eyebrows. For only the second time in the 25-year history of the pork checkoff, the appointments did not reflect the results of the delegates who voted on the board candidates last spring. "We were surprised that the will of the delegates wasn't followed," National Pork Board spokeswoman Cindy Cunningham said. The main duty of delegates to Pork Forum each year is to vote on and rank board candidates, according to Dianne Bettin, a producer from southern Minnesota who ended two terms on the board last summer. She called Vilsack's action "frustrating."
