The silage trailer has a pick-up unit (24, 26) which feeds the crop into a space (40) between front (16) and back (20) boards. The back board can be raised by hydraulic cylinders which are mounted so that they can slide with it towards the rear of the trailer as more crop is fed in. An independent claim is included for a method for operating the rear board.
