Masters 'Bee Tree' Scholarship at JCCFS

This scholarship program is established to honor my first enamel instructors, Maggie Masters and the late Gus Masters, in recognition of their accomplishments at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina. The Enameling Studio at the JCCFS was first established in 1974 and formally dedicated as "The Masters' Enameling Studio" in 1996. It is one of the most well equipped teaching studios in the U.S. Maggie and Gus were basically self-taught enamelists who freely shared their knowledge with students. Through their teaching and the enameling program, I have been rewarded with a long and creative learning experience at the Folk School. Maggie and Gus' home and studio in Brasstown was named "Bee Tree," a cozy mountain sanctuary where they produced their enamels and sold them through many venues.
