As bioprocesses grow in size and complexity, filtration products must meet end-users' requirements for flexibility, economy, durability, more manageable process volumes, automation, productivity, and disposability. This wish list carries through fromthe beginning of a process, when volumes are highest, to final fill and finish. "Cell cultures processes were once large at 250 L, then 1,000 L, then 10,000 L, and now 20,000-liter process volumes are not uncommon," notes Henry Kopf III, president and CEO of North Carolina SRT (NCSRT; www.ncsrt.com).
