Genital tuberculosis in a Danish-born woman.

We think that the incidence of genital tuberculosis, although a rare disease, is rising due to the general increase of tuberculosis (TB) that has been observed worldwide over the last decade . We present a case of genital TB in a Danish woman with no identified exposure to the disease.A 19-year-old white, Danish-born woman, gravida 0, presented with a fever of 38.4 degC, suffering from lower abdominal pain, dysuria and pain during defecation. Pelvic examination revealed uterine tenderness on bimanual palpation, but was otherwise normal. Pelvic ultrasound showed a substantial amount of ascites, normal uterus and right adnexum with cystic changes indicating pyosalpinx. Close to the left adnexum, a mid-echogenic irregular structure, that possibly represented the left fallopian tube with necrotic changes, could be visualised.
