Westfalia's UK office is looking at new ways of strengthening sales of fresh and processed avocados in Europe over the coming years. AVOCADO consumption in the UK is reported to be growing at a rate of 20 per cent each year, a statistic that reflectsonly too clearly the increasing popularity of this fruit. According to Simon Curry, marketing manager for Westfalia Marketing (UK), sales have been boosted by PR campaigns for both South African and Chilean supplies and an increasing trend at retail level to indicate avocado ripeness. "There has been a definite relationship between ripeness and sales when it comes to avocado sales in UK supermarkets," comments Mr Curry. "This has proved to be a highly effective way of encouraging repeat sales and we fully expect this trend to continue."
