Picking through a pile of debris is easier when you can do it by hand, and the "hand" many contractors rely on is a grapple attached to the boom of an excavator. "Grapples give you the ability to pick and sort through debris," says Bill Douglas, president of Kenco. "You just can't do that with a bucket. "When you knock down a building with a grapple, you can then use that same grapple to separate the debris," he states. "With the way scrap yards are today, concrete goes into one bin, wood into another and metal into a different one. Grapples make a lot of sense for recycling."
