Canada's Talisman Energy and South Africa gas-to-liquids expert Sasol are deepening their partnership in British Columbia's Montney Shale, this time with Sasol taking a 50% working interest in Talisman's Cypress A assets for C$1.05 billion (US$1.08 billion). Sasol purchased a 50% interest in Talisman's Farrell Creek assets late last year, while the two partners also launched a study to determine the feasibility of building Canada's first GTL plant (EIF Jan.12,p3). That transaction closed on Mar. 1. The joint venture does not expect to commence commercial development at Cypress A, which is less mature than Farrell Creek, for several years.
