BLENDED LEARNING IN THE ESI

Training is a major issue in the Electricity Supply Industry (ESI), meeting the needs of an expanding workforce and maintaining operating competencies of existing personnel. The introduction of new online components of training offers benefits and challenges for the industry. "Blended Learning" refers to integrating elements of online training (e-learning) into existing training regimes. Generally the e-learning component addresses theory, with practical training being undertaken face-to-face with trainers. For example, operators who are going to work at heights can undertake an e-learning program to learn about fall protection systems and equipment. Having successfully completed the program and passed the assessment they are then ready to join a trainer for further practical training and assessment.
