This article examines the operational optimization of induction heaters in the forging industry. It provides an overview of the optimization steps developed for an energy-saving project. Numerical investigations are an important part of the optimization process, since they supply important information regarding operational practice. For this reason, a simulation program developed specifically for the forging industry, which calculates specific energy demand and temperature distribution in the workpiece, is used. Parameter studies illustrate the energy-saving potentials and in addition permit the adaptation of the induction heating line to the material undergoing treatment.
