摘要

INSURERS investing in initial public offerings of private sector companies will enjoy more freedom soon. This is likely to help policyholders garner higher returns from equities, post-listing. Insurance companies are allowed to invest in IPOs as part of their approved investments, sub-. ject to norms on the minimum issue size, the number of shares offered and so on. The Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (Irda) is set to relax these norms. Currently, insurers can investin an IPO of a private sector company if the minimum issue size is Rs 500 crore. The amount is significantly lower at Rs 100 crore for investments in IPOs of state-owned companies. The proposal is to have a uniform minimum issue size of Rs 200 crore.
