February 16 will be a big day for Corus. Group, me British subsidiary of Tata Steel and Europe's second largest steel producer. Not only will the company's third quarter results (not unveiled when Tata Steel first published its figures last month) be revealed, so will the fate of its Teeside Cast Products plant in Redcar in the English county of North Yorkshire. Tata delayed its verdict on whether or not to partially "mothball" or suspend operations at the site following a public outcry. Though the company has never talked about mothballing the site entirely - rather TCP will close its blast furnace steel mill and a coke oven and keep some power, the wharf and one coke oven running, with a loss of 1,600 of around 2,300 jobs at the plant - unions have argued mat the move would have a devastating impact on the region.
