The response of two crops, wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) (a frequent rotation in western Andalucia) to the traditional (LT) and conservation tillage (LC) has been studied under non-irrigation agriculture. The LT enhanced growth and nitrate uptake by the sunflower seedlings. The same trend was also observed in wheat, although the differences were not significant in this case. Early differences derived from the tillage system did not affect the nutritional status nor the overall crop yields. The drought suffered that year reduced the yield of sunflower grown in LT conditions, but the one grown under LC conditions was less affected.
