THE NO-TILLAGE TECHNIQUE WITH GRAMOXONE IN RICE WHEAT PRODUCTION IN THE WATER SAVING CONSERVATION AGRICULTURE

摘要

The no and minimum tillage in wheat and oil seed rape production have been being conducted along the Yangtze river in China for more than a decade for example in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. However, in term of farmer acceptance, this technique is widely adopted in Sichuan because of the in-depth academic study and the agricultural department support. The key driver is the cost saving with slight yield increase. The similar technique is extended to rice in this province as well as being developed in other provinces. Water saving is one of the driver apart from the cost saving with slight or flat yield increase. This practice is proactively adopted by farmer in Sichuan and under extension in Hunan, Hubei, Zhejiang, Guangdong and Hainan. The use of Non Selective herbicide especially those with fast action and rainfastness attributes like Gramoxone for weeds clean up before planting is the key success factor of the no-tillage. The benefits of rice no-tillage are fully understood but some more works are required in order to extend this conservation agriculture widely & deeply in those rice growing area where is suitable for no-tillage practice. The partnership collaboration between the industry and the agricultural extension organization is also recommended in order to widely develop this technique in the agricultural production in China.
