North Helps Boost Iraqi Oil Sales

Iraq is striving to maintain higher oil sales of at least 1.9 million barrels per day through the rest of 2009 as it seeks to raise more cash to help plug a budget shortfall. Crude exports of 1.906 million b/d in May, up from 1.82 million b/d in April, fetched about $3.3 billion, a senior Iraqi oil official told International Oil Daily on Thursday, while average sales this year of 1.84 million b/d have so far earned a total of $12.5 billion. "We are working to achieve this figure again this month," the official said. "There is pressure on the oil ministry to do something."
