Statoil Copes With Problems Churned Up by US Macondo Spill

Statoil is working with its contractors in the US Gulf of Mexico to cope with the problems churned up by US regulators’ decision to slap a six-month moratorium on new offshore drilling in response to BP’s Macondo well disaster, finance chief Elder Saetre said in unveiling the Norwegian firm’s second-quarter results Thursday. Statoil has interests in nine discoveries or producing fields in the US Gulf, and is a significant upstream operator in the region, where it may now face lengthy delays in new drilling as a result of BP’s giant oil spill. Last year, Statoil produced about 45,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the US Gulf, or nearly 9% of its international output.
