Internal consistency and Cronbach's alpha: A comment on Beeckman et al. (2010).

Comprehensive investigation of psychometric properties is needed when developing and translating questionnaires, instruments or tests. Beeckman et al. (2010) did an excellent job of examining their newly developed pressure ulcer prevention knowledge assessment instrument. It covers six different themes of pressure ulcer prevention knowledge: (1) aetiology and development, (2) classification and observation, (3) risk assessment, (4) nutrition, (5) reduction in amount of pressure/shear, and (6) reduction in duration of pressure/shear. Various validation strategies were applied using large samples that were representative of the intended users.
