摘要

Saltwood Tunnel is an existing Railtrack tunnel on the Ashford to Folkestone railway. The 865 m long, double-track brick tunnel was constructed in 1843. Since the opening of the Channel Tunnel, this route carries all the continental rail traffic except vehicle shuttles, in addition to domestic rail services. The Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL), currently under construction, passes above and alongside the tunnel in a deep cutting. Rail Link Engineering has been responsible for the design and project management of the CTRL construction works above the tunnel and the investigation and instrumentation of the tunnel.
