Experimental study on electrostatic atomisation of liquids and electrospraying

摘要

Nanoscience and nanotechnology is one of the most important scientific fields, and the material processing using the nanotechnology is now advanced towards more precise and controllable smart stage. Electrospraying is an innovative method to deposit thin films. The formation of electrospray from a capillary can be obtained by applying a high electric potential across its orifice, experiments using electrostatic force are proposed in this study. In order to study the effect of the nature of liquid, the atomisation has been studied by using distilled water and a liquid prepared by dissolving Zn-acetate in methanol. Experiments have been carried out by using a downward rigid conducting electrode capillary containing the working liquid, which is to be electrostatically sprayed, connected to a high voltage power supply. The effect of applied voltages and the nature of the substrate on electrostatic spraying were investigated.
