摘要

A growing body of research and positive empirical experiences indicate that honey is a valuable topical agent in modem wound management and wound bed preparation.Variations in the weather, climatic conditions, the flower source and processing methods (such as the use of additives) contribute to the diversity in appearance, consistency and clinical impact of honey. It is important to note that not all honeys behave in the same way: the properties of the above variables will have different influences on the wounds with which they come into contact. Furthermore, if a carrier dressing (such as gauze or alginate) is used to deliver honey to the wound, then this too may impinge on clinical efficacy.Following the introduction of antibiotics in the 1940s, the day-to-day use of honey became passe. However, with the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, clinical interest in the use of honey increased. To date, there is no evidence of bacterial resistance to honey.
