Perceived constraints of the entrepreneurs in poultry farming in Assam

A study was undertaken to evaluate the socioeconomic and personal veriables of poultry entrepreneurs of Assam, and to record the differences of attitude between their ten-day pre- and post- training period and to assess the level of perceived constraints for starting a poultry farm. Fifty poultry trainees were selected randomly and each of them was considered as respondent. Data were obtained by personal interview. The study revealed that the poultry farming was gaining popularity among the younger generation and unemployed youths. Overwhelming participation by the farmers with smaller unit was observed per capita consumption of poultry meat of the majority participants was higher than that of national average. Very few respondents had taboos on consumption of egg. The training programme was found to have great impact on the attitude of the entrepreneurs towards farming. Among the various constraints on poultry farming lack of capital was given the highest weightage by the participants.
