Comparative effect of certain additives on preservation of buffalo bull semen at refrigeration temperature

A total number of six ejaculates of Three Murrah buffalo bulls were used to study the effect of treatments with caffeine, CAMP (Cyclic adenosine monophosphate) and CSP (Cattle seminal plasma) on preservation of semen at refrigeration temperature 4 deg c-7 deg c. Each semen sample was divided in four equal volume, of which three were treated with caffeine, cAMP and CSP just after dilution and fourth was kept untreated as control. The highest sperm motility was recorded in CSP (43.15%) followed by caffeine (43.06%), cAMP(39.29%) and lowest in control. (31.53%) and difference was significant (p<0.01) when compared with control. The addition of cattle semen plasma, caffeine and cAMP also increased the average non-eosinophilic spermatozoa count as compared to control. The increase was non significant, tile number of abnormal spermatozoa were 3.86, 3.19, 3.83 and 4.09 per cent for CSR Caffeine, cAMP and control respectively and the difference among treatments was significant (P<0.01). The buffalo semen can be preserved with cattle semen plasma at refrigeration temperature as evident from the results.
