This series is designed to help you advance your nursing practice. Previous articles have explored the differences between specialist and advanced practice, the importance of setting objectives, how to use feedback, the value of clinical supervision and the motivation to advance practice. A number of workshops that I run are to do with how teams can work effectively and efficiently together in order to do the job they are paid to do. At the beginning of the workshop an interesting set of questions I ask is: who is your manager and are you responsible for managing anyone? Secondly, who do you look to for leadership and are you in a leadership role? Spend a few minutes thinking about these questions yourself.
