Chilli is considered as recalcitrant species with respect to in vitro regeneration. Among all solanaceous crops, it is the most difficult to regenerate under in vitro conditions. Rooting is an important phenomenon in whole process of tissue culture. It is effected by several factors such as growth regulators, medium composition etc. Keeping these in view, the effect of medium strength and IBA on in vitro rooting of tissue culture raised microshoots of chilli was studied. In vitro rooting studies wereconducted with four chilli cultivars viz., KtPL-19, Pusa Sadabahar, ArCH-001 and Salem.Tissue culture raised microshoots were inoculated on half and full strength of MS medium supplemented with 1 and 2 mg/l IBA. The data on rooting per cent, days takenfor rooting, number of roots per shoot and root length were recorded. Experiments were designed in factorial CRD with three replications.
