PORSCHE Cayman: the star rating that the Cayrnan earned in Its Autocar road test

Last year, the new Porsche Boxster gave us a pretty big clue that the Cayman, when it arrived, was going to be something special. Of course it was. It had been a great car its entire life. Why would it be different now? There were a few reasons why it could have been different. Chief among these was the adoption of electrically assisted steering and the increasing prevalence in Caymans of PDK transmissions. You can simply opt out of the second of those, of course, but there's no escaping the electric steering, and the steering wheel, don't forget, is your primary interface with any car. That's why we drove a Lotus Exige S - keeper of one of the best steering racks on the planet - all the way from Autocar Towers to southern Portugal for the launch of the Cayman. We wanted to try them, back to back, on the same stretch of brilliant, twisting, winding road, to see if the Porsche could better the Lotus.
