How fast do you drive on the motorway? Eighty, eighty-five? This may be about to land me in a whole heap of trouble but, shock horror, sometimes I set the cruise control to 90mph if the motorway I'm driving on is dry, not very busy and well lit. And although this is almost certainly tempting fate and I will no doubt get pinched the day after this goes into print, the last time I was done for speeding on a British motorway was nearly 10 years ago, way back at the end of the last century. Right now my driving licence is as clean as a field of freshly laid snow. The last time I was done at all, in fact, was in 2001 by a camera which took a photograph of me travelling at 39mph in a 30mph on the outskirts of Bedford. And it was 2.30am.
