At present there are 29 State Agricultural Universities, 1 Central Agricultural University and 4 Deemed Universities. Though most of these have Department of Extension Education with under-graduate and post-graduate teaching and research facilities, the number of research studies through post-graduate programmes are limited and insignificant compared with other disciplines of agricultural and social sciences. In view of fastchanging scenario of agriculture in our system, there is a need to prioritizethe extension research in areas of technological aspects, participatory rersearch, linkages, technology assessment, its refinement and transfer, extension privatization, training methodology, action research, extension method and gender implications infarming-system approach.
