Monohalogenation(bromination and iodination)of electron rich arenes by tetraalkylammonium halides in presence of conc. H_2SO_4

Arenes undergo electrophilic substitution reaction when treated with tetraalkylammonium halides(bromides and iodides) in presence of conc. H_2SO_4 to give p-haloarenes in high yields.Recent work from this laboratory has described reduction of different functional groups bymetals such as aluminum or zinc in presence ofammonium salts under neutral conditions.
