To meet consumer expectations and broadening environmental issues, automotive manufacturers have been seeking new sustainable power train technologies, such as hybrid engines or electric motor drive in place of traditional internal combustion engine systems. Combustion engine hybrids offer broadly similar noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) engineering challenges. New intelligent materials, such as magneto-rheological fluids, will be applied in engine mounts, transmission mounts, centre bearing mounts, exhaust mounts and suspension spring/shake absorber units, as shown in Figure 1.
